What is Hypnotherapy

Hypnotherapy has a vast research base and hypnotic techniques themselves have been explored for millennia. However, is often still misunderstood by the public.

Hypnosis is not the same as natural sleep, despite the word being derived from “Hypnos” – the Greek god of sleep. Hypnosis is simply a deeply relaxed state, a natural state we all experience several times a day, when falling asleep, watching TV, day dreaming. You are awake and aware of everything that is going on, you are simply deeply relaxed.

The reason why Hypnotherapy is an effective treatment is because when we are relaxed our conscious mind is relaxed, offering much greater access to the subconscious mind; the driving force of our behaviours, emotions and where all our memories are stored. Meaning we can have significant positive and lasting changes. Hypnotherapy uses a number of methods to communicate with the subconscious mind including imagery, metaphors and direct suggestion. Sometimes working with past events to bring emotion release and change. You are always in complete control and will be aware of everything being said.
