  • nausea
  • tense muscles
  • urge to pass urine/empty bowels

Common psychological signs of anxiety and stress include:

  • fear of losing control
  • irritability
  • phobias/fears
  • agitation
  • catastrophising

It could be an event that is causing your anxiety, such as:

  • Public speaking (i.e. speeches, presentations)
  • Flying
  • Exams
  • Driving

Anxiety can also manifest in social anxiety, fear of being around other people and/or specific social situations.

Anxiety is a fear of something where the actual danger presented is disproportionate to the fear itself, for example a fear of essay writing. We suffer from these due to our primal stress response, the “Fight-or-Flight”. Hardwired into our brains over millions of years of evolution to respond to threats in our environment by either fight or running away. Triggering an increased heart rate and breathing, rush of blood to arms and legs, shutting down the digestive system and a feeling of being on high alert. Your mind may race and struggle to calm down.

We are still designed to have these responses and sense danger due to our Fight-or-Flight response today. However our environment around us has changed and what we perceive as danger (i.e. flying) still creates the same response we’d get if a lion attacked us.

What changes can you expect from reduces anxiety and stress?

  • stronger immune system
  • improved digestion
  • improved sleep
  • more energy
